What is recreational vehicle insurance?

Recreational vehicle insurance provides protection if you cause injuries or damages to others. It can also cover the cost of damages to your vehicle, if an incident that is covered occurs.

Unlike auto insurance, which only covers cars and trucks, recreational vehicle insurance covers a wider variety of vehicles, both in and out of state, including:

  • Class A, B, and C motorhomes
  • Travel trailers
  • Pop-up and truck campers
  • Off-road vehicles

Frequently Asked Questions

What does recreational vehicle insurance not cover?

Recreational vehicle insurance does not cover natural wear and tear from things such as mold, fungi, or rot. Damage from earthquakes and floods is also not covered.

Are my personal belongings inside of my RV covered?

Your personal property is covered up to a certain limit, which varies by carrier. Settlements for your personal property will be based on an Actual Cash Value (ACV) basis.

Do I have to pay for my insurance policy during the off-season?

We recommend keeping your insurance policy active during the off-season, even if you’re not using your vehicle. Otherwise, it won’t be covered in the event of an incident.

Am I covered if I drive my RV to a different state?

If you’re passing through a different state in your RV, you’re covered. If you’re parking your RV in a different state for an extended period, you should purchase RV insurance coverage for that specific state. There is no set amount of time that qualifies you for this, but if your RV is permanently stored in a different state, it will need to be insured in that state.

Does my policy cover all members of my household?

Any other operators other than the named insured will need to be listed as such on the policy. Otherwise, they won’t be covered by your insurance when they operate your vehicle.

How much recreational vehicle insurance coverage do I need?

The exact amount of coverage you’ll need depends on your vehicle, but we recommend purchasing more than the state required minimum coverage, to ensure that you’re covered, no matter what incident comes your way. When you contact our agents, they will work to make sure you have adequate coverage.
