What types of boats do we cover?

We will write insurance for any types of boats, excluding racing boats. Please note that yachts may go through a more extensive quoting process, depending on the price. We also insure personal watercraft as well.

You request a quote

You will be asked to provide the basic information for a quote to one of our insurance agents. This information would be your name, the HULL number, the model year, manufacturer, model, where you plan to use it, along with other basic information about the boat.

We will verify your needs for your insurance policy. This is so that we can provide you with the best insurance that caters to your needs.

We write up a quote

Based on the information that you provide to our agents, we will write up a quote for you, and contact you with several differently priced options, to see what fits your budget. We work with many carriers, so finding you the right coverage is the name of our game.

Signing the contract

If you like the terms and the price, we will send over an application. The customer fills out the application and sends in a down payment on the policy.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can my child drive my boat?

According to the Massachusetts Government, no person under 12 years of age may operate a motorboat. The only stipulation is that they’re accompanied on board and directly supervised by someone 18 years of age or older. Any personal watercraft user must be at least 16 years old, with no exceptions.

Does my child need to complete a boating safety certification course?

If your child is between 12 and 15 years old, they need to complete an approved basic boating course in order to operate a motorboat without adult supervision, according to the Massachusetts Government. Personal watercraft users who are 16 or 17 must also complete a similar, approved course.

How can I register my boat?

You can head to the Massachusetts Government website for detailed information on how to register your boat. There, they have information on required documentation, a helpline for assistance, as well as methods to register your boat.

Should I operate my boat if I’ve had something to drink?

You should never operate your boat or personal watercraft if are intoxicated or under the influence. It’s also a bad idea to operate your boat when you’re sleep deprived.

Do I need a license to operate my boat?

You do not need a boating license to operate your boat, nor do you need one to be insured. We do recommend taking a boating safety course, so that you understand how to properly operate your boat.

Who is insured under my boat insurance policy?

Anyone that you give permission to drive your boat is therefore covered under your boat insurance policy. The exception to this is if your policy has a Named Operator endorsement; which means only Named Operators are covered.

What do I do if I need to use my boat during the lay-up period?

You should contact our agents so that they can re-activate your policy if you need to use it during the lay-up period.

What do we not cover?

We will not cover boats used for commercial fishing. The speed of your boat may also bring limitations, as it may be considered a racing boat.
